How to wear a half wig

Posted by Eba

Gone are the days where wigs were only worn by clowns. Wigs and half-wigs look great and are perfect as as quick styling options, protective hairstyles and also for religious purposes. Worn by women around the world everyday, half wigs provide an easy inexpensive hair styling option.

Also referred to as a hair piece, half wigs can be worn for long or short-term purposes.

Like the name implies, when wearing a half wig, half (sometimes less) of the hair is exposed while wearing a half wig and as such, it is very important that the half-wig blends with the natural colour of the wearer's hair.

It is important to choose the right half wig from a beauty supply store, either locally or online. Buying half wigs online has become very popular over the years as customers love to read various reviews by people who have purchased it all over the world.

It is best for half wigs to have combs in the front and back of the wig. Do not confuse a half wig with a full wig, which should cover all of your head.

You may choose to blend the two hair textures (half wig and your natural hair) or use a head band which would cover your hair, only exposing the half wig.

To blend the two hair textures, you may use a curling iron, flat iron, hair rollers, hair gel or cornrow your hair prior to wearing the half wig in order to achieve the same texture of hair as the half wig.

Part your hair along the front parameter, about an inch from the hairline and comb forward, starting at your left ear going all the way to your right.

Braid your hair in a circular pattern (excluding the front parameter), or straight back. This provides traction for the half wig combs and makes the half wig lie flat on the head.

Put the half wig on and make sure that the combs securely fit in the front and back of the head. Ensure that the wig aligns with your ears. You may also use bobby pins to secure the wig to your taste.

There are numerous videos on YouTube which show various half wig styling techniques as well as half wig reviews.

How quickly do eyelashes grow back after they have fallen out?

Posted by Eunice

Something horrific happened: a couple of eyelashes fell off. Maybe you can even see a gap in your lash line and you are panicking by wondering when your lashes would grow out fully and start looking normal again. Well, worry no more - this article gives you the answer.

Eyelash 101

The eyelashes protect the eye from dirt, and is sensitive to touch. In many cultures, long eyelashes are a sign of femininity. Nowadays, eyelash extensions are becoming more popular and can be done at regular salons. Some eyelash diseases include madarosis, trichiasis and blepharitis.

How long does it take to grow back?

It is perfectly normal for your eyelashes to fall out from time to time, just like the hair on other parts of your body.

Some activities such as makeup removal, the rigorous wiping of your eyes (a mechanical cause), heavy mascara, eyelash curlers, pillows and false lashes may trigger this.

How long does it take for eyelashes to grow back?

Just like the hair, eyelash growth occurs in cycles which includes a growing phase and a resting phase. Hair falls out at the end of the resting phase, hence making way for new hair to grow in the follicle.

On the average, eyelashes grow back in the space of one to six months. The rest fall out and begin all over again.

Taking care of your lashes

  • Firstly, be gentle with your lashes and do not rub vigorously.
  • Throw out the makeup, especially eye makeup every four to six months.

How to get long eyelashes

The easiest way to do this is by taking good care of your eyelashes. Always clean them with makeup remover, olive oil, soap, etc after wearing makeup. Also, learn to apply eye makeup properly.

Just like your hair, your eyelashes also need conditioner. A natural eyelash conditioner is olive oil. Rub some olive oil on your finger tips, and rub along your lower lash line, extending to the length of your eyelashes in a vertical motion. This will also make your eyelashes longer.

Natural products that promote lash growth

Other natural products that encourage eyelash growth include castor oil, fruits, vegetables and nuts.

Eyelash growth products

There are many products out there that promise to grow your eyelashes. This is quite controversial as some users have said that it worked for them while some saw absolutely no results.

Applying some loose powder on your lashes before you use mascara makes your mascara last longer.

Get rid of oily skin using olive oil: The facts

Posted by Eunice

You've got oily skin, so why would you put more oil on skin that is already as oily as it is? As contradictory as it sounds, olive oil stops the skin from producing excessive oil of its own, making it perfect for oily skin.

Over-active sebaceous glands produce too much sebum, which makes the skin oily and can result in block pores and nourishment for bacteria. Olive oil in itself dissolves oil well, and will do so without drying it out or leaving your skin feeling oily or greasy. Olive oil has been used for centuries to moisturise and cleanse the skin.

So why exactly should you use olive oil on your skin? There are many reasons:

Olive oil is high in oxidants, one of which is hydroxytyrosol which is extremely rare and can slow down the aging process by stabilising the cell plasma membrane.

Oily skin

If you suffer from oily skin, it may sound odd to apply more oil on it but on the contrary, regular treatment of your skin with oil sends a message which makes your skin produce less oil of its own. Makes sense doesn't it?

Sensitive skin

One great thing about olive oil is that it is extremely gentle and non-irritating, perfect for sensitive skin. It leaves your skin hydrated, soft and supple. Extra virgin olive oil is the least processed and also contains the the highest nutrient value, hence this type of olive oil is best for delicate skin.

After going ahead with your regular night facial routine which should consist of makeup remover (if you wore makeup), cleanser/exfoliator and moisturiser, pour some olive oil in your palms and massage it into your skin with your fingers. Don't worry about your skin looking too oily at first, just let the oil dissolve into your skin.

Author's advice

Don't stop on your face: go ahead and use it on other parts of your body that may need some moisturising.
