Natural remedies for yeast infections


Probiotics are a popular natural remedy for yeast infection. They are live microbial organisms naturally present in the digestive tract and vagina. Sometimes referred to as friendly bacteria, probiotics suppress the growth of potentially harmful organisms. Probiotics are available as oral supplements, and in food such as soybeans, raw oats and unrefined wheat.

Boric acid

What is boric acid? Boric acid is a weak acid of Boron, often used as an antiseptic, insecticide and flame retardant, among other uses. It exists in the form of colourless crystals which dissolve in water.

Safety concerns are raised while using boric acid to treat yeast infections. Boric acid is toxic and should never be ingested internally (orally) or placed on cuts or open wounds. It also should not be used for prolonged amounts of time, and by pregnant women.

Tea tree oil

Tea tree oil can be applied to the vaginal area, although there have been no studies showing the effect of tea tree oil on yeast infections.


Eating an eight ounce serving of plain yogurt daily reduces your chances of developing a yeast infection. Look out for yogurt which has L. acidophilus in it, which is key to fighting yeast infections.


Placing a garlic clove in the vaginal region every few hours will provide much needed relief. It can also be taken internally as well. Garlic is also great for lowering blood pressure and reducing bad cholesterol.
